China has issued a stern warning to the Philippines, urging an end to what it calls provocative actions in the contentious South China Sea. This appeal comes in the wake of a recent Philippine supply mission to a grounded vessel at Ren’ai Jiao, also known as Second Thomas Shoal, which China claims as its territory.
The Chinese government criticized the Philippines for proceeding with the mission despite prior warnings from Beijing. In response, China’s coast guard monitored the supply ship and issued warnings during its operation, actions which Beijing defends as lawful measures to protect its territorial sovereignty and maritime interests.
China further accused the Philippines of breaching their commitments under the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea. It warned that such activities could potentially destabilize regional peace and stability. Beijing has emphasized that it will continue its law-enforcement operations around Ren’ai Jiao and the Nansha Qundao, known internationally as the Spratly Islands, to safeguard its declared maritime rights.
