In a recent summit, U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping addressed the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, as Iran proposed a strategic plan aimed at easing tensions in the region. The discussions on September 25 focused on the importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for global energy supplies currently disrupted by hostilities.
Iran has put forward a seven-day peace plan that calls for the reopening of the strait and resumption of maritime traffic. The plan also demands the lifting of the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports, the release of frozen Iranian funds, and the removal of oil sanctions. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi emphasized that if the United States accepts this proposal, normalcy could return to the region within a week.
While the United States has not formally accepted Iran’s plan, ongoing discussions through mediators have been described as constructive, particularly concerning nuclear issues. However, Iran remains firm on not conceding any ground on its nuclear program, including its uranium enrichment activities.
President Trump cautioned Xi against providing any form of support to Iran, direct or indirect. Meanwhile, U.S. Ambassador to China David Perdue assured that China has confirmed to Washington it is not aiding Iran in any capacity.
The conflict has heightened tensions across the Gulf region, affecting countries like Yemen and Lebanon. In light of these developments, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey are reportedly seeking to enhance their military and intelligence cooperation to address the growing security challenges.
President Xi advocated for both the United States and Iran to revisit the framework established in June, which had successfully led to a temporary ceasefire. He stressed the need for resuming negotiations to reach a comprehensive settlement. Iran has expressed support for this proposal while continuing to promote its own seven-day plan.
