Heng Swee Keat Appointed as SIT’s Inaugural Technology-Focused Chancellor

The Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) has announced that former Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat will become its inaugural chancellor starting June 1, 2026. Heng will hold this esteemed position for a five-year tenure, concluding on May 31, 2031. As the chancellor, he will serve as the university’s highest ceremonial leader and ambassador, steering significant university ceremonies such as graduations and representing SIT at crucial institutional and external events.

The introduction of the chancellor role at SIT underscores the institution’s ongoing evolution as a leading higher education provider, dedicated to equipping students with industry-ready skills through applied learning and research. His previous roles include serving as Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister from 2019 to 2025, Education Minister from 2011 to 2015, and Finance Minister from 2015 to 2021. This extensive experience is set to play a pivotal role in his new position at SIT, where his leadership is expected to leave a lasting impact.
