Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has emphasized the need for enhanced business and investment partnerships between Singapore and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), underscoring the potential for companies and investors from both nations to expand their cooperation. During a meeting with UAE business leaders in Abu Dhabi on October 20, Wong highlighted the possibilities for building on existing government collaborations by fostering connections in the business and investment sectors.
In discussions with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the leaders explored shared priorities, focusing on opportunities for exchanging expertise. Wong pointed to the UAE’s strengths in energy sectors, including oil, gas, renewable energy, and nuclear power, as well as the country’s growing investments in artificial intelligence and defense technology. These fields present avenues for the two countries to leverage their respective strengths, forge new partnerships, and delve into emerging industries.
Economic ties between Singapore and the UAE remain robust, with significant trade volumes. In 2025, bilateral trade in goods reached $27.9 billion, while trade in services totaled $12.8 billion in 2024, establishing the UAE as Singapore’s largest trading partner in the Middle East. This substantial economic relationship underscores the importance of ongoing collaboration and the exploration of new commercial opportunities.
The two countries have also been strengthening economic cooperation through bilateral business forums and investment initiatives. The latest discussions between Singapore and UAE leaders reflect their mutual interest in expanding commercial links and identifying new opportunities amid evolving global economic conditions.
