Việt Nam and Singapore are poised to enhance political trust and expand strategic collaboration, focusing on technology, innovation, and sustainable development as core areas of cooperation. This comes as Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm prepares for a state visit to Singapore from May 29 to 31. According to Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Mạnh Cường, the relationship between the two nations has progressed beyond traditional economic interactions, now centering on future-oriented sectors essential for long-term growth and regional integration within ASEAN.

The bilateral relationship was elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2025, underscoring the deepening political trust and shared strategic objectives between Việt Nam and Singapore. Singapore is a key economic partner for Việt Nam, ranking as its second-largest foreign investor. This partnership includes thousands of projects in sectors such as manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, finance, real estate, and high technology. The Việt Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network stands as a significant symbol of this cooperation, with ongoing efforts to transition towards greener and smarter industrial models in line with sustainable development objectives.

Both countries are ramping up collaboration in cutting-edge fields like artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, big data, clean energy, digital transformation, and green initiatives. Officials have highlighted ongoing efforts to connect the innovation ecosystems, technology enterprises, and skilled talent networks in both nations. Economic cooperation is expected to be a primary focus during Tô Lâm’s visit, along with enhanced collaboration in finance, trade, supply chains, and technology development.

Initiatives such as “Tech Connect” are anticipated to fortify connections between governments, universities, research institutes, and private companies in areas like artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and green technology. The visit is also projected to bolster the next wave of sustainable and high-tech VSIP projects throughout Việt Nam.

During his visit, Tô Lâm is set to deliver a keynote speech at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, a premier security forum in the region. Vietnamese officials regard this invitation as an acknowledgment of Việt Nam’s increasing international prominence and its dedication to peace, cooperation, and strategic autonomy.
